How to Get Along with Me )

[09 Jul 2009|06:17pm]
I can't escape the rumor mill no matter how hard I try. I have become a hermit almost, hiding myself away, and that still doesn't stop it. I don't know if I am bothered more by the people that spread the nonsense I'm hearing, or those that actually believe any of it.

I can't make people stop talking. I can't make people try to find out the truth of any situation. Some people are just that way. I can't do anything about that. But that doesn't mean that I am not angry about it. Oh I am. Very very angry.

Well since people can't be bothered to talk to me or find out the truth, I will bring the truth to them. There are two subjects right now that are really bothering me, and I don't understand why they have become such a hot topic, but I will cover them right now.

1. My job history

Apparently some people have it in their minds that my job history is terrible and that I can't hold a job or that I refuse to keep a job once I get one. I assume this is because I have been out of work for as long as I have. Aside from this unemployment, however, my job history has been pretty decent.

Since 1999 I have worked 8 jobs, several over 6 months in length, including 5 years at Petsmart. I have been fired only once. The rest I left on good terms, and almost all of them would rehire me if there were any positions available.

Despite this, I have heard some people say the things above, and they simply are not true. Nobody is a perfect employee by any means. Everyone has certain parts of their job history they aren't exactly happy with and I am no exception. However, I have proven myself to be a hard-working and loyal employee, and I have several references that can back me up on this.

If you have said anything about my job history or anything about me pertaining to jobs, you seriously have no idea what you're talking about. A smart person will spot your lies from a mile away, and you'll only look foolish saying it.

2. Jason's illness

Ok here is the one I really don't understand. Apparently some people have said that when he was in the hospital, I was uncooperative, refused to do certain things, or even that I was not very supportive.

I have discussed in detail what happened with very few. I don't really like to talk about it, and honestly it's not anybody's business. It was a very stressful time and I honestly don't remember all of it. Who would even want to? I can maybe see how things might have been misconstrued, but it is that last claim that just totally blows my fucking mind.

I was not supportive? How can you say that? I basically had to put my entire life on hold because of this situation. I really didn't have much of a choice in the matter regardless, but I did so without question. I was there at the hospital every single day. I couldn't sleep, I could barely think. I answered hundreds of questions from tons of different doctors and friends. I cried so much I ran out of tears, but I was a goddamn rock for his family. Nothing made me happier than when he looked at me that first time after finally coming awake and saying, "I know you."

But it didn't end there. I helped him eat. I bathed him. I made sure he had medicine, that he had clean clothes, that he had things to drink, and read, and changed the tv channels for him. I wanted him to be as comfortable as possible. I continually had to go find his goddamn nurse. I learned how to fix the stupid IV machines myself.

There was no me during this time. There was only him. I was completely emotionally and physically bankrupt, but I never once uttered a complaint. I was there for him every day with a smile on my face. I have never asked him for anything in return except for his appreciation, which I received in abundance.

It was by far the most gut-wrenching, heartbreaking time of my life, and I don't ever want to repeat it ever again. He very nearly died. The idea that some people think these terrible untrue things about me makes me so mad I can't even describe. Some of those who are criticizing my behavior didn't even come to see him while he was in the hospital.

To those in question: how can you say these things? Unless you have been through something like this, you have no fucking clue what you're even talking about. How dare you judge me. Seriously, you should feel ashamed of yourself.

Honestly I'm getting pretty tired of people saying things that simply are not true. These are just two of the things I have been hearing, some from people I thought were friends of mine. Are you so hard for attention that you have to do this? Do you do it because you feel insecure or bad about yourself? Do you really just dislike me that much? I don't care what the reason is actually, I just want it to stop. Do you honestly think I won't hear about the shit you're saying? You would not want people to do that to you, so why do it to others?

For people that actually take this crap seriously, why do you believe everything you hear? Much worse, why do you continue to spread it around? Think for yourself! Make your own educated decisions! Have the decency to find out the truth. Drama is for high school.

So apparently they had to cancel their interviews today because of some "executive emergency". I apparently was the only one that didn't get the memo.

Now I have an interview scheduled for next Tuesday....

I swear I can't get a break. :(

Things have been kind of a roller coaster around here lately, but it seems to be improving. I had a job interview last week but they chose someone else. That's ok though because I landed a pretty sweet gig, and if all goes right I'll have some money coming in soon. I'll have more details on that later once it gets started. It has to do with art though, which is pretty sweet.

Jason and I went to the art museum on Friday. If you haven't been to it, I really urge you to go because there's a lot of really neat stuff to look at. I took a lot of pictures but I'm not going to spoil it. Aside from that, my camera has been acting really shitty as of late. When I can get it to accept a set of batteries, all my photos come out blurry or grainy, which is definitely not cool. I can't afford to get another camera by any means, so I guess I will have to either take really bad photos with it or my phone, or just go camera-less for a while.

It seems all my electronic devices decide to crap out on me right after the warranty expires. Go figure...

OMG New arts time! [04 Jun 2009|09:19pm]
I've been promising this for a while. I wanted to wait until I could get some higher quality images, but for some reason my camera is not working... I put new batteries in and it tells me the batteries don't have enough power.

But anyways... they aren't the best of quality, but they'll do. Some are in links because the images are large.

Here are images of the book that I got an honorable mention for:

Here is the figure drawing (NSFW):

Here is the abstract drawing. This was done with ink and colored pencils:

Close ups (I had to take these with my phone):

This was part of the drawing but was eventually cut off:

I will try to get some better quality photos soon. I also will have more to share.

So I've seen a few good movies lately. I mentioned in a previous post certain movies I've been wanting to see, and I finally got out to see a couple of them.

The first, Terminator Salvation, we saw on opening night. It was pretty good. I enjoyed it. I think the best part for me was finally finding out why John Connor was so important. You hear a lot about it in the other movies, but I've always wanted to know what he does exactly that's so special. This movie cleared up a lot of unanswered questions for me. I will admit there were a couple of corny and predictable parts, but overall it was good.

Secondly, Star Trek... WOW! It was amazing! If you are a Star Trek fan, you will probably love this. If you have never seen any Star Trek before, you will probably love this. It was really awesome. So awesome I will most likely see it again. I know that a lot of people were skeptical about Zachary Quinto cast as Spock, but I knew it was going to be awesome. I was totally right, because he takes the show for sure. In fact, I thought all of the cast were excellent. This was a great showcase for many upcoming stars. What an amazing opportunity. It must have been fun.

Anton Yelchin was in both movies. I have to say I think I really like him.

I also saw Rent (the movie) this weekend too. It was alright as a movie, although I enjoyed the actual production way more, of course. Still, it's worth seeing.

We saw Nightwish in concert last night at Pop's. It was really great.

All in all it was a good set. There was a significant crowd. They seem like friendly and charismatic people, and were pretty into what they were doing. The keyboard player looked just like [info]bradzerker! :D

I had another chemistry test today. It was about heat transfer, electron configuration, and the movement of electrons when making ions. I won't know how I did until Monday, but I am pretty sure I rocked the crap out of it. Unlike last time, I felt pretty satisfied afterward.

Additionally, I am now registered for the fall semester at SIUE. Finally a big kids' college. Wow! Government grants will pay for over half of my tuition, but unfortunately I've reached the point where I can't go any further without acquiring the dreaded student loan. The good news is that they aren't as big as I feared, and there is no interest. The bad news is that unless I can get some scholarships for next year, I'll eventually owe a lot of money since I have at least another 3 years of class ahead of me. So here's hoping.

I'm super excited though. I've been going to college for some time, but I never really felt like I was on my way anywhere in particular. As it turns out, I managed to accidentally have a perfect plan. I have over half of all the classes I need to graduate already done. I am majoring in Biology: Ecology, Evolution, and Environment. The strange part is that with only a couple more classes on top of that, I could minor in Art or Chemistry. If all goes well, I will have a bachelors within 3 years. After that I have no idea, but I doubt I will stop there.

Let's see... stuff....

The art show went very well.  I got an honorable mention for one of my 3 pieces.  They actually chose my least favorite out of the 3, but it goes to show how people's opinions differ.  I got a $50 gift card to Dick Blick, which is crazy awesome.  I'll be going there later this week and picking out some expensive art goodies.

I feel really proud because out of 300 entries only 77 made it into the show, and out of that, only 5 winners were chosen.  That's pretty sweet. ^_^   If anybody hasn't been down there yet, you totally should, cause it's a great show with lots of really neat stuff.

There are a ton of great looking movies coming out this year.  I guess they are making up for all the terrible ones.  We were watching some trailers on Hulu.com (a great site btw) and I came up with the following list of my picks...  I have to prioritize as I am rather poor.

Stuff I WILL see:  Terminator Salvation, G.I.Joe, Wolverine Origins

Stuff I want to see: 9, The Soloist, Transformers 2, 2012

Stuff I might see: Moon, Land of the Lost, The Skeptic, Planet 51, Public Enemies, Year One

Stuff I might rent: Dance Flick (lol)

So yeah, that'll be a good time.  I am very excited about the new Wolverine flick.  When I was a young impressionable child, Wolverine was my absolute favorite character out of all the X-Men, although Gambit came a very close second.  That trailor gave my geekiness a hardon.

Aside from this, I'm not really doing much.  I'm trying to be more active, but I'm pretty lazy too.  I'm enjoying life as best I can despite money woes, but I'm pretty used to it by now.  The biggest struggle is to get Jason to stop stressing about it so much.

As a final thought, I never expected in my life to ever have D's, but I guess my mom's genes are slowly taking over.  Go figure.

OMG [14 Apr 2009|02:13pm]
I've been totally absorbed by school lately, especially art which has taken up a lot of my time the past few weeks. The reason why? I'm going to be in the student art show!

Lewis and Clark Community College Student Art Show
held at the
Jacoby Art Center

The address is 627 E. Broadway, Alton, IL 62002.  It is on the corner of E.Broadway and 3rd St, just a block west of the McDonald's.  From St. Louis you can take 367 north into Alton.  From Edwardsville you can either take 255 to Wood River and then go west through East Alton, or take 270 to 3 north to East Alton and take Broadway west.

It would be great to see some people come out and see the show.  There are a lot of great artists this year, and some really awesome pieces.  The opening ceremony is this Friday, April 17th from 5pm to 8pm.  The show runs until May 10th.

Hope to see you there!

My god, I made a flickr. What on earth am I doing? http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalyandra/

So Merlin has this habit... I can't really tell if it's annoying or not. He will jump on the bed at about 6 or 7 am, purring his little purrbox, and start kneading on the bed with his front paws. If there is any exposed skin, he licks it until I stop him. He won't leave until I let him under the covers, where he becomes a purring cat-loaf for about 15 minutes, and then leaves. He's been doing this for about a week.

The reason I say I can't tell if it's annoying to me or not is because this is a totally new showing of affection, and I'm not sure if I want it to stop... but on the other hand, he's doing it while I'm trying to sleep. I don't mind if he cuddles with me, but it wakes me up every time.

I love my kitties, but they do the strangest things. When Merlin first moved in here, the only affection he ever showed me was in the bathroom. He absolutely insists on being in there while it is in use. His brother has picked up on this behavior and virtually is absent for the entire day until I need to pee. Then he shows up and expects cuddles and it's like.. c'mon man I'm BUSY!

I don't know why I'm complaining about this. Cats are strange and I know it. I just wish sometimes that I had a cuddly cat that wanted affection at normal times in a normal way. ;)

One small step for man... [14 Mar 2009|03:23pm]
So I finally decided to make another journal elsewhere. I'm not even sure why I'm doing it. It took me a long time to get onto Myspace, which I barely use, and then I tried Facebook, which I stopped using. I even made a Twitter, which I used once and haven't even gone back to the site at all. So why a "blog"? I dunno, I just felt compelled.

Anyway, here it is: http://kalyandra.blogspot.com/

I'm not sure what I will do with it yet, or if I will even keep it. Maybe I'll try a different site, maybe I won't. I guess we'll see.

How Condoms Are Made! [12 Mar 2009|05:28pm]

Very educational.

Sweet shit I'm off school until the 23rd. I'm going to sleep until I can't possibly sleep anymore. And then I have a chemistry test right afterward. Why would she do this to us?

My art project went well. The finished product isn't quite what I envisioned in my head but it came out nice. Maybe I'll take some photos.

Speaking of photos, I'm thinking of ways to make my LJ more interesting. I have lots of friends who post interesting photos all the time. I'm thinking of doing something similar. Spring is taking its time this year, but I am beginning to see signs of life. It will be time for my camera to get more use.

MAYBE NOBODY WILL STEAL MY TULIPS THIS TIME! LULZ!!!

But anyways, the campus has an overabundance of flowers and plants, and every day as I walk around the place I see little flower buds poking up. Soon it will be very lively and I intend to get a lot of great shots. I also intend to take a botany class over the summer. That should be a good time.

I sent my SIUE application off finally. The only real delay was getting the application fee in order. I was worried for a moment about whether or not I would be accepted, but I talked to a rep of theirs yesterday, and he said basically if you have a GPA of 2.0 or above you get in. Is that all?

So I'm totally going to a real big-kid's university. OMG!

I hate being sick when the weather is nice. As soon as I get better, it gets fucking cold out. Awesome...

Yay things are finally starting to look up!

I passed my chemistry test with a 89.5%. I will admit this was better than I was expecting, but then the test was easier than I was expecting, too. Still, my teacher is extremely picky. I've officially got a B+ in the class. Yay!

In my art class I finally drew a real life naked lady. Yay! I will try to get photos of the drawings once they are done.

My computer finally came back in the mail. I had to reinstall XP but it is now working fine. Yay!

I am no longer sick. Yay!

Jason got a job today! YAY! Now I just need to get one.

It seems that some charities will be paying for his medical bills in full. FUCKING YAY! No bankruptcy is pretty kickass.

It's hard being optimistic sometimes. I try to be, but I usually end up being more of a realist. Still, I do believe in the saying "things can only go up from here" and, not to jinx it but "it can always be worse." Jason had a very near brush with death. We've both been unemployed for some time and have managed to just barely scrape by lately. But, we haven't lost our home. We haven't lost each other. We very nearly did.

I'm very glad it didn't get that bad. We are both much more appreciative of what we DO have, because we know what we could have lost.
